An evaluation is made based on a records review, a personal interview (when permitted), research, and vocational evaluation when necessary and when permitted. An injury, illness, or accident can produce a disabling condition. A vocational expert is able to determine the individual's skills and abilities that are work-related. Some factors to consider include the nature of the disability from a physical, functional, and non-exertion perspective, the types of skills and; abilities acquired from previous employment, earning history, earning potential or loss, and the capacity for the individual to return to post-injury employment. Ultimately, these findings may be used to calculate economist losses. In some cases, a personal interview is not possible; a vocational or life care planning/review opinion may be rendered upon review of comprehensive records and may include vocational and life care planning research and consultations with other Experts.
